Susan Galler
President and Founder

After more than 20 years as a successful senior fundraiser and nonprofit manager, Susan founded The Galler Group in 1997 to provide executive recruitment, fundraising counsel and strategic planning expertise to leading nonprofit organizations. Since that time, the reach of services and professional resource base of The Galler Group has greatly expanded to better serve a national audience, with a second office opened in Miami, Florida in addition to its original location in Newton, Massachusetts.

Prior to founding The Galler Group, Susan served as Senior Vice President of Development for Beth Israel Hospital in Boston, a primary Harvard University teaching hospital, and as Director of Development for WGBH, a pre-eminent broadcasting station within the PBS network.

Susan has served as President of Women in Development, the largest association for fundraising professionals in New England. She also has served as a board member for the Wang Center for the Performing Arts, the Jewish Women’s Archives, Planned Giving Group of New England, and the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Massachusetts Chapter, and as an Overseer for the DeCordova Museum and the Celebrity Series. She is a frequent speaker at industry conferences and workshops.

Susan holds a BA in English from Harvard College.

Nancy Brimhall
Fundraising Consultant

Nancy has more than three decades’ experience in capital campaigns, major gifts, feasibility studies, development audits, and executive search on both a consulting and staff basis. Most recently she served as Vice President of Development for COPIA: the American Center for Wine, Food & the Arts in California’s Napa Valley, managing its $55 million capital campaign. Upon concluding those responsibilities, she re-established her Los Angeles-based consulting practice in 2004.

Nancy’s earlier consulting practice was based in Boston and served Northeast clients in numerous areas, including health-care, academics, and the arts, as well as community-based organizations. Previously, she served as Chief Development Officer at the Schepens Eye Research Institute, a Harvard Medical School affiliate, where she managed a $50 million campaign, and as Director of Development at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Nancy frequently lectures on trends in fundraising and direct mail, and training and retaining development staff. She first consulted with The Galler Group on projects for Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.

Nancy holds a BA in English and Art from California State University, Sacramento, and a California Lifetime Teaching Certificate.

Marcia Felth
Communications & Organizational Development Consultant

Marcia specializes in grant writing and development communications for clients in the arts, human-services, education and health-care sectors. She also provides written content for annual reports, brochures, web sites and strategic plans.

Previously, Marcia worked in the corporate sector in program management. She has consulted for Fortune 500 companies, designing career development and executive training programs to help businesses attract, develop, and retain talent. Marcia first collaborated with The Galler Group on the Corporation for Public Broadcasting’s Major Gift Initiative.

Marcia holds a BA in American Studies from Barnard College, and an M.Ed from the University of Vermont. Marcia also is a certified Executive Coach with the Center for Creative Leadership.

Deborah Heller
Strategic Planning & Organizational Development Consultant

For more than 25 years, Deborah has consulted with both nonprofit organizations and for-profit clients to help them become more competitive in the marketplace and to introduce new strategies for growth. She is President of HellerCunningham, and organization development firm in Brookline, Massachusetts.

Focusing on strategic and operational elements, Deborah works with senior executives to better illuminate complex organizational and market dynamics, and to generate and implement pragmatic operational changes. Deborah also specializes in complex facilitation. Deborah first collaborated with The Galler Group on a comprehensive strategic plan for the Boston Architectural Center.

Deborah holds an AB from Smith College, and an MA and PhD in Sociology from Boston College.

Andrea Kihlstedt
Fundraising Consultant

Andrea is Founder and President of The Kihlstedt Group, a fundraising and organizational development consulting firm with offices in New York City and Lancaster, Pennsylvania, that works with community-based organizations to expand their resources and reinvigorate their fundraising programs.

Andrea writes and lectures extensively about capital-campaign fund raising for community-based organizations. Her book, Capital Campaign Strategies That Work [Aspen Publishers, Inc.] is a comprehensive resource on capital campaigns tailored to community-based organizations. Andrea first collaborated with The Galler Group on the Corporation for Public Broadcasting’s Major Gift Initiative.

Andrea holds a BA in Philosophy from the University of Pennsylvania, and an MA in Philosophy from Brown University. She is a graduate of Johns Hopkins University’s Fellows Program in Change Management, and an ongoing student of Organizational Development at the International Gestalt Study Center.

Jim Lewis
Fundraising Consultant

Jim is a Founder and Partner of Lewis Kennedy Associates, a consulting firm providing fundraising and management services to community-based nonprofit organizations. They specialize in individual giving programs – from membership and annual fund development to capital campaigns – and in training programs, from in-person to web-based training.

Previously, Jim was Senior Vice President of Marketing & Development at Oregon Public Broadcasting, and General Manager of WGBY in Springfield, Massachusetts. He also held development and management positions at KLRU in Austin, Texas and at WJCT in Jacksonville, Florida. In 1994, he was recognized as the PBS Development Professional of the Year. He first collaborated with The Galler Group on the Corporation for Public Broadcasting’s Major Gift Initiative.

Jim holds a BA in Public Television Administration from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

Paula Sidle
Fundraising Consultant
Paula is Founder and a President of The Solstice Group Inc. With more than 21 years experience in nonprofit organizations, both in-house and as a consultant, Paula consults in all aspects of fundraising, including board development, campaign feasibility, planning and management, major gift fundraising, and training. She has developed a highly regarded training program for corporate middle managers on how to assess, select and effectively serve on community nonprofit boards.

Paula has collaborated with The Galler Group on a feasibility study for the Boston Museum Project. She currently is collaborating on the Corporation for Public Broadcasting’s Major Gift Initiative.

Paula holds a BA in History from Cornell University. She also has completed Napier and Associates’ Small Group Facilitator’s Internship Program on developing community and leadership skills.

Joycelyn Snell
Executive Coach & Career Management Consultant
In 1991, Joycelyn Snell founded Professional Career Solutions, a Boston-based career management consulting business specializing in executive coaching, career assessment and leadership staff development. She was recognized as one of Boston’s top 10 executive coaches in 2005.

For more than 14 years, she has created winning strategies for developing and positioning professionals and companies for success. She has collaborated with the Galler Group since 1995 and continues to provide fundraising/development organizations dynamic professional development activities that enable them to move forward in their respective careers. She is a frequent lecturer and presenter at conferences and universities, such as MIT’s Sloan School of Management, and Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government, on career development strategies.

Joycelyn holds a BS in Psychology from Washington University, a MA in Human Resources and Counseling from the State University of New York, and an advanced certification in Organizational Development from the National Training Lab/American University and the Advanced Management Program at the European Institute of Business (INSEAD)
